Scientific Goals
						A major goal of HAO’s solar atmospheric and heliospheric program is to observe and understand the Sun's continuous release of plasma (ionized gas) and energy into interplanetary space. To support this goal, HAO operates the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory (MLSO) on the island of Hawaii.
